I get very sore tight calves during my runs especially going up hills.

Usually I find tightness eases out over the course of the run, but not at the moment.

After long run (10m) on Sunday calves still sore.

Should I rest for a bit? And/Or get a foam roller to massage calves? Or have a sports massage? (the pain of having my calves massaged a month ago was excruciating but they were looser for a bit)

rest.

get a sports massage (if it doesn't hurt the physio is doing it wrong).

invest in some compression socks.

Also, have a look at the shoes you are running in. Have you had your gait analysed in a proper running shop?

Stop pushing off with your toes when you're running.

to so what Davie says - TRy lifting your toes up as you run - Dnot too much but just enough to keep them off the ground

Hmmm, compression socks.

Do they REALLY help? I've been thinking of getting some myself recently but keep reading conflicting theories regarding them.

Pootle... thanks. good advice. Have had gait analysed but shoes may need replacing now so probably time to go back.

daviec... good point, I definitely push off with my toes when running uphill

I heart my compression socks, especially when I have sore legs but want to crack out a few more miles.

The only problem with them that I find is, given the current stupid trend for adult women wearing the sort of socks we all used to wear at primary school as a fashion accessory, non runners don't seem to get compression socks and the amount of beeps and leering you tend to get from white van men is making wonder if they are actually worth it :-/

Pootle ... I agree, that's always put me off about compression socks!
