Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Ours is outside. Too big and heavy for loft and could have put indoor somewhere but would have taken up space. They are obv fully waterproof! Happy install! ;-) G

Ours is in the loft. My only gripe with this is something I wasn’t expecting, in that it ends up too cold to charge for large amounts of time over winter, so might be worth asking that question first. Mine is a Fox set up - who I believed to be some of the best in class, but apparently they are sensitive little souls.

Thanks Happy

Thanks Cath, that was my thinking too.

@HappyG(rrr) is yours protected at all, with a box or something, and what sort of base does it sit on or is it wall mounted

Ours is in a large indoor cupboard (old stairs access prior to the refurb), but outside was definitely an option. It does effect battery performance long term I believe, but you can get wooden shelters for them or build something.

I am in Scotland. Ours is outside. Had it since Sep 2022. It has never failed to charge, even on coldest winter nights -10C or lower?

No protection, and it's on a NW wall getting full force of winter rains and snows. It is directly on the ground but is in a full case IP65 rated givenergy.co.uk I'll let you know if it fails! :-) G

Yeah, we’ve had this conversation before. I’m a little jealous :-)

I’ve not been overly impressed with my solar installer if I’m honest and when I logged a support call with them they just said the battery was operating outside of its optimal temperature and therefore protected from damage.

Sorry wasn't trying to be smug Cath. But does sound like your battery isn't working right. Don't know how you can prove that or get it rectified.

Just wanted Lammo to have an alternate experience. :-) G

I know that and it made me think about looking into it some more. Reading the manual for my battery it does say that it will ramp down charging below 15 degrees, which does roughly align with my experience. I guess I just wish the installation company had let me know about this and offered some alternative options.

Got something to say?
