That's definitely not true with high jump. You need to be athletic to jump, lol. Can have the best technique in the world but if you can't jump, you can't jump.

Anyway, they improve technique by practice, you can't practice when you're knackered, doping means you recover quicker and can practice more.

I can’t think of any high jumper that’s ever failed a test. Has there been one ?

I agree that you need athletic ability, but you could dope me as much as You want and I would never have the technique. I might’ve be a better runner though ;-)

Doping probably wouldn't give you enough jumping ability either.

"Doping probably wouldn't give you enough jumping ability either."

By that I mean if you've only got a 10 inch vertical, you're going to have to go some to get the 40 inch plus likely needed for high jump.

"I must be making my point badly. To be good at figure skating or high jump it’s the technique that is the key part. The physical element while important is not what makes them good."

This is definitely incorrect.

Just because there are highly technical elements to a sport, it does not mean that the physical elements are not crucial.

Look at the Curling - even for them the physical elements are absolutely crucial.

If you have two athletes in a technical sport who are matched in technical ability, then the physical ability is what will separate them.

Obviously it's more complicated than that, but to say that it's only "pure" physical athletic sports that benefit from doping is wrong.

Maybe in chess.... (I'm sure someone will tell me that even in Chess doping can have an effect ;-) )

Perhaps some drugs which increase aggression / confidence (cocaine?) might improve a timid chess player?

Has anyone given the “these drugs were only resting in my system defence” yet?

I like the idea of a timid chess player. But what would an overly aggressive one take? ;-)
