Hi,

Im about to run my first Marathon in some Mizuno Wave Riders, my second pair. All other shoes I have had in the last 5 years have been mizuno and they have done me well.

Looking past the Marathon I want to try and make some headway into my 5km (19.30) and 10km (42.14) times. Lots of folks from my running club sware by Brooks this or Adidas that, and some now some Nike runners too.

In terms of a 5km or 10km road running shoes (avoiding Supportive shoes) any advice what people think I should look at? I would say I am pretty neutral by the way. Also would there be much difference from Wave Rider 14's - my marathon shoe.

Thank you,

Best advice I can give you is if your happy with your Mizuno`s stick with them. I`ve found over the years shoes are all down to personal comfort and preference. If your not sure what type of runner you are, go to a specialist running shop and have your gait analysed they will advise you on different makes and models of shoes and dont forget to take your old shoes with you, that will show them how your soles wear out. I`ve been down the so and so wears whatever make at the running club and ended up injured through it, its not worth it, get some proper advice.

I used to always run in Mizuno waveriders but suddenly they hurt me so now love my Saucony progrid ride 4s :-) Have to say I agree witeh Plodder.... if they work then stick with them - just up the interval training!

If you like Mizunos then mushas are very light. Very little support if you need it, but a nice low flat stable feel.
It's trial and error to some extent though.

Thanks all. I did got to Sweatshop a few months ago in York (near Xmas), I live in Hull (with Marathon in mind) and the woman had no stock in my size (wave riders and other shoes I was interested in) and similar to you Plodder she just advised to stick with what I knew worked and order from Sweatshop.com. Becuase all I know is Mizuno, I dont know what I am missing ot otherwise! I have had a injury a few momths ago that put my running back, but probabaly nothing to do with footware (Gracilas groin strain). Just realised i have told a little porky above, I do have some Speedcross off roaders and I was wearing them around the time I got injured too. Only did about 35 miles all winter in them. Back in my two pairs of Wave Riders now, and sticking with them for the marathon. One pair for training in and one pair I have done about 30 miles in ready for the marathon...ill get that nearer to 40/45 come race day.

Mushas eh JohnnyO.....never heard of them....have to put that into Google and see what it says. Maybe another dive to York one day maybe in order for the sweatshop visit...but last time it did leave me unimpressed! The shop I use(d) in Hull is OK, but he stocks mainly lower end Mizuno, Asics and Zoot (he got me into Mizuno) maybe i should have a shop around in Hull see what advice is out there...

Anything to help me get under 40 mins 10KM. Not afraid of Speed work.....but have cut it out (excluding weekly parkrun) last few months. DO I miss 400m, 800m, 1500m reps....no! Well sort of now I come to think of it....hmmmm. role on Hull Marathon!

Thanks all,

MAG
