Thanks Shades. I’m really pleased. I’ve some things to ponder on how I try and keep the 3 sessions, up the mileage, and get out on the hills. Can I handle it all? Not sure!

There’s a 5K race next weekend I’ve got my eye on but it’ll at least partly depend on how the coming week goes. Currently feeling good but I’ll see how I am tomorrow and early part of the week.

As you were so strong in the latter stages, maybe less emphasis on the longer runs this season. You can maybe maintain those work sessions that are working so well for you. There's nothing wrong with your endurance.

Shades, as you probably know, I’ve never been one to bang out loads of 20 milers in training, even at my best. I do feel though that 55-60ish miles per week is a sweetspot for me generally, and I think I can probably get to around that and still keep the sessions in. And maybe get to 14-17ish on the hills on occasion? I reckon that may be enough this time around and would be brilliant based on where I came from. And then for DD I’ve got a couple of marathons which although not hilly would hopefully be reasonable training.

What do you think?

I kind of wish I’d done a half before Vilnius last year. From my sessions I still don’t think I’m back where I was last September, but then this result makes me wonder.

Big G- In theory you're fit enough to push your weekly mileage to 60ish miles a week without it tiring you out too much, allowing you to keep the sessions going. As long as you don't do too many long runs, that is.

You have Dartmoor Marathon coming up which will give you an indication of where you are on hills.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon. Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
