"I love tender stem broccoli and have always assumed that it's the same as regular broccoli - but actually, Professor Berners-Lee says the particular vegetable has a high carbon footprint: "It will have been air freighted in, usually all the way from Kenya," he says."

An obscure quote from M R James that I am posting here purely for the Carry On value: "soon an odour as of the worst variety of shag stole over the sacred edifice". He is of course referring to tobacco. |

The whole thing is here: users.globalnet.co.uk I've only discovered it today. it's of interest to me because my desk is less than 100m from the north side of King's College chapel and the glass is often illuminated by internal light or the sun. |

Sugar activates similar (or the same?) neural pathways as addictive substances such as nicotine of cocaine. Should it therefore also be viewed and regulated as an addictive substance? Is it causing an epidemic of fatty liver disease and insomnia as well as diabetes and obesity? In a running context - all those gels? Bad news? Or might I be missing out on a handy midrace drugs hit by never taking them? Are fervent anti-sugarists who never touch a morsel of cake cranks? And if such seeing images triggers the same pathways, why don't we just look at pictures of chocolate? Finally, have I just been reading too many articles from the Telegraph? |

A (non-Telegraph) article theconversation.com I've consumed about 40g of sugar so far today, at breakfast. Nearly all of it was pretty obvious, rather than hidden. (Have a look at your prepared cooking sauces, if you use them. One Chinese sachet sauce I spotted had 29g if sugar per 100g.) |
