I particularly like the final paragraph. Who'd have thought you could get a PhD for getting

RichHL flustered and then noting down what he said?

I would have said loofah-wearing rather than loofah-faced, perhaps this is best, loofah-wearing, cheetoh-faced, tiny-fingered shitgibbon who may well be president in 2025 unless they get busy making up some new rulz.

re: the times article, I don't dispute the findings and they make sense, but how does that square with the slighter higher BMIs (over 25, but not obese) having same and sometimes better life expectancies, that I've seen previous studies find...?

Chris - it may be that the BMI figures include people who have a low BMI due to illness. The low BMI would be correlated with an increased risk of death, but wouldn't be the cause of it. I've seen similar explanations for why a small alcohol consumption seems to be better for life expectancy than none at all - when you take out the people who don't drink due to illness and just look at healthy people, the effect disappears.

I've not seen the figures for BMI, though, so that's just speculation on my part.

Hummus recipe:

Proper hummus is served with a drizzle of olive oil, rather than oil being a significant ingredient in its own right. This is what should go in it:

• 1½ cups cooked chickpeas or 1 (15-ounce) canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed*
• 3 tablespoons tahini
• 3 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1 garlic clove, mashed
• ¼ teaspoon salt, or more to taste
• Approximately 2-4 tablespoons room-temperature water or aquafaba, or more if needed
• Optional garnishes: extra virgin olive oil, sumac or paprika, finely chopped parsley or other herbs, whole chickpeas

This particular recipe from thymeandtoast.com but it’s typical of the Middle Eastern way of making it.
