Well done all the marathoners! Sounds like testing conditions.

I've always said I prefer running in the rain/cold to hot, but I may have to revise that after the Castle of Mey 10k yesterday. 6degC, heavy rain and a strong headwind for the 7k - 9k uphill section. Didn't hang around afterwards (quick change in the car), and even with the car heaters on full blast, I was still cold when I got home 3.5 hours later. Good to see Jenny Bannerman get overall winner - not often you get a female in first place.

This was my first time on the new EMF course and while it certainly shows more of the landmarks of the city to runners, the start is too much downhill and is more hindrance than help. Add in over-enthusiastic runners cutting in and out and a few tight turns and the first few miles are a bit tricky. Only after the first 180 degree turn in the park can you get a steady pace & rhythm going. Transport back to the City after the race is still hellish. I was surrounded in the start pen by French, Spanish and Italian runners so this race does seem to be an international tourist event

I like rain, but not wind, when I’m running. Sounds really tough, Nessie.

Sounds challenging Nessie. Especially for May. It was hella windy in the east later on. There's quite few Fetchies could confirm exactly what you suspect about the course on a sunny day, JRitchie. In the halcyon days of the post race parties Santababy organised - what a collection of sunburns!

I've been looking at finisher stats. 2008 was the year it really took off, jumping from under 4000 to well over 6000.

2010 was a high spot: 9495 in the marathon and in the first year of the half alongside, 3737. Scorchio! 198 Fetchie finishers listed :-o fetcheveryone.com/viewracedetails.php?id=43208

2011 saw 9738 finish the marathon, and Fetch himself was 6th! He's been very modest about that ;-) (well, some bloke called Ian Williams was 6th, at least).

This should probably be a blog post ... maybe it will be.

That 198 Fetchies year was def Santababy's fault. The reputation of the after party preceded it! :-) G

Was the 198 Fetchies year the year the water was allegedly stolen?

2009 was the water year....think 2010 was the Fox eating cables year ,but may have been 2012 as I did both and know I ran it when that happened

I was always dubious of that fox & cable story.. until I was talking to someone who knows about wildlife things and he told me there was a chemical in the type of plastic used to cover electrical cables that attracts foxes.. So maybe it was true after all.
