Well done everyone for running in that horrible weather! Hope you’ve all dried off and warmed up! I’ve had a fun weekend of cheering but now off to enter some more races as I had serious FOMO today watching everyone when I should have been running!! |

Yes, congratulations everyone. Was chatting to some runners in the pub just now, and they all commented how windy it was on the final stretch.

I completed leg 3 of the relay and can confirm the wind was a beast after the turn. Must have been a tough last 7 miles.

I didn’t appreciate just how many runners do Edi Mara and 1/2 - has anyone got any numbers for finishers in each? Also - how did one spot an Edi marathon relay runner? Is there a special type of race number? I thought it was one colour but that was starting pens & it just be distracting for marathoners to have relayers surging past unless you can identify them as relayers? |

It was 2016 when I last did Edinburgh Marathon Jules, and the fresh-legged relay runners that shot past me all had a ‘Relay Runner’ labels stuck to their backs.

I think the numbers have a thin stripe down the side. I thought I remembered the back labels from the past Fergus, but none offered today. Running 6:30mm in the 3rd leg past 2 hour at halfway runners, I’m afraid I was ‘that guy’; not particularly satisfying really

Well done everyone. I didn't come down to cheer after all, as weather was grim up in Fife at 8am. So I went for my own run in the grim and by 11 ish it had all cleared up, so I could have come down and run-supported. Oh well. Glad you all had a good time. That strengthening westerly wind must have been a pain for the marathon runners for the last 8 miles after the turn at Gosford. Hope it wasn't too much of a slog. G

Oh aye, big events indeed Jules. Plus over 5000 in all the Saturday races. In the marathon, around 35% of the finishers were women. However they were a majority in the other races. By 321 in the HM; 60% of finishers in the 10k and 64% in the 5k. One thing I noticed was that the 5k times at the sharp end were overall not that fast, especially amongst the women so I compared it to Edinburgh parkrun (admittedly a faster course). 28 women ran under 24 minutes at parkrun, only 9 at the EMF 5K. In the men , approx 40 (including likely unknowns) vs 21. Which probably tells us that if you are quite fast and going to spend a bit of money on an entry, you are likely to run further than 5 km. |

Edinburgh mara was a tough day out for me as niggles and limited training curtailed my ambitions but glad to get to the finish safely. Lashed it down before the start but I finished with some proper sunburn at the finish. The westerly wind was noticeable on the way back. Great support though the town parts and thanks to the Fetchies transport advice - council buses were perfect. In two minds about doing it again. Running that course on a full on sunny day would be seriously challenging.
