I don’t think Jen is a pot hunter. The number of times she volunteers at her local Parkrun should tell you that.

Maybe, a a strictly mid-pack runner, who will never challenge the leaders on a park run, I'm not qualified to enter this debate, but for me the glory ( and the runner of the month awards - which even I won, once upon a time) in parkruns, lie in consistent performances over period of time, not just a one off course record. I don't begrudge these super speedy runners a course record, but like being in the same race as the truly talented. Anyway, what's the alternative? Confine the super speedy to their home parkrun, or force them to run slowly in other park runs?

Most Parkruns have an award every year for the most first finishes over the year. That is one way to honour the local fast runners, who are maybe not fast enough to set a course record.

Maybe new parkruns should request anyone who is running under 20 minutes not to attend in the first four weeks ;-)

Jennifer did give others a chance last year, by running parkrun whilst heavily pregnant, and very soon post delivery. I was still nowhere near her times!

The comments posted about an individual are completely out of order. I think the runner in question has family in Montrose and therefore would be doing it with her family when visiting. Is that not what people do? If planning visiting family or away for weekend visit a parkrun?

She is a very talented runner who has won a significant number of races, Scottish athletics medals both individually and as a team. Why shouldn’t she visit different parkruns? And I might add she is making a terrific comeback after the birth of her baby.

Angus, I love you man, but that was a bit much...

Given that you don't parkrun, I dunno why you'd get a bee in your bonnet about it.

And great point by UC, Hazlehead is held by a Kenyan who visits with a charity banner and fanfare every year or two. Nobody minds....

Parkrun stopped the points competitions a while back.

Anyone should be able to come along, run to their ability and if that gets them a first place and a course record then so be it.

I’ve been pointed at this thread... so just a friendly reminder to keep things friendly folks. Disagreement is completely fine (see politics thread), but insults are not. Love, Fetch.

Oh no, we got a yellow card. Was it for the sweary word or cos it was directed at someone? There have been many sweary words (in the Runners Arms thread late at night back in the day, for example!) :-) G

Swearing is not usually a problem in itself, we’re all adults; and like I said, even strong disagreement is completely fine. But politeness and respect is appreciated.
