I believe you got personal first with your attack on someone you don't know and who didn't even post on the thread.

I cant quite believe what I just read. We should be applauding our better runners not having a go at them because they set course bests

Apologies if I upset anyone within the group last night, but I do believe it was right to defend a nice person wrongly attacked.

Course record at Hazlehead is held by a Kenyan, very lovely person too. Don’t see anything wrong with this myself.

You know me, always like to try to reconcile differences. I think Angus was picking up on what is commonly known as "pot hunting".

When there was prize money to be won, some "decent" runners would go around to smaller, local events e.g. the Highland Games (village fete in England) and win the £10 prize. That might be frowned on by some? (Though I know a very lovely Fetchie who used to spend his summer touring the Games and collecting enough to cover his petrol money and beer money in doing so! I think he was unapologetic! I won't name him!)

So if it's visiting parkruns to get the fastest time on multiple courses that does seem a bit "off" doesn't it? If it's visiting parkruns like any other parkrun tourists, and just happens to also set and hold the record there, then fine. Parkrun tourism is perfectly acceptable. But if it were *only* to get your name in parkrun website, doesn't anyone think that's a bit off.

And separating the act from the person, Jen W is a fantastic runner, always seems very nice and friendly (thought I haven't ever spoken to her except to shout Go Jen!) so I'm not having a go at her.

What would we think of "pot hunting" as I described it? All's fair in love and short distance racing? Or, local Games should be for local residents and touring around to beat the locals is a bit off?! Discuss (but in a nicer way with no sweary words, please!) :-) G
