We went on the Friday night and stayed until the Monday so that I wasn't stressed before it. We stayed in an Airbnb about a mile from the start so it was a nice warm up walk.

Clashing with the Fling can't help either.

Fling was the day before, although I've not heard of anyone doing the double with the Stirling marathon this year (at least one did the half). About 800 started the Fling - and Great Run is supposed to be mass participation?

At this rate my "home town" marathon will be gone before I get to run it :-(
It seems to stink of the organisers looking for an out, falling numbers, poor sized t-shirts, start area mess, awful medals and some not even for Stirling, new route each year..... Next it will be the foxes eating the finish funnel ;-) :-(

Let’s remember that EMF went through some years when they couldn’t seem to get it together. But the race is still going

We spoke to a woman going through Doune on Sunday that did the Fling too, no idea how many others did that. Someone told me four, but, I've no idea if that's true!

HT, I don't know if the numbers of entries are the factor, as it's costs as well as revenues that determine if the race makes a profit, and I don't know how the costs of the two events compare. But Edinburgh will always attract national and international runners as it's a "destination" city for tourism in a way that Stirling isn't

Yes costs of putting on events fairly fixed (increasing) always so if entrants drop!?
Realise Stirling is viewed by us as some way behind Edinburgh, but it is one of the bigger tourist cities in Scotland these days.
Just got email from Embra marathon lot, standard entries still open to 6th May and then entry price to go up (so not completely closed!?) Was it always open as late, or struggling with numbers on previous years too?
