aka - the front room is never used. Let the sunshine in!

This is a companion thread to 'Do a New Thing for Spring'. It's inspired by WA's post on Saturday. 'Newts' are thread shorthand for new things, by the way.

This is what she posted:

'My newt today is a bit odd. I'm sick of wearing trousers (uniform for work and jeans at home). So today I've been wearing a 50s style cocktail type dress. Just in the house and mooching about. Why wait for *best* ?'

Saving for best might be a bit of an age thing. Perhaps the younger you are the less likely you are to do it? I think 'best' was perhaps more important last century....

Whatever. I still do it... and I need to do it less. Putting food to the back of the shelves is sensible but not if it means you rarely eat anything brand new fresh.

I rarely wear my favourite earrings - too scared I'll lose them. But they're going on TODAY.

Little things mean a lot.

The room we save 'for best' is such a pig-sty - as we don't use it, we've ended up filling it with junk!

I think that's the way it goes McGoo (is the room thing working class I wonder?) they either become junk depositaries or take on a Miss Haversham air of cobwebs and rotting wedding cake.

When I moved to this part of the world, I made a resolution to tidy myself up a bit and started going to work wearing my "best" frocks and proper shoes. The natives were very suspicious of me, and they were much happier when I went back to my old hiking tops, black trousers, and trainers.

Very true. I am improving my wardrobe and getting rid of the old, shabby, scruffy, and unloved stuff.

I'm all for this except that the "best" stuff probably needs dry cleaning and so a dress that can go in the machine and not need ironing afterwards will always win.

Lol! This is a great thread!

We've got "best" cutlery and crockery. It sees the light once a year, at Christmas. We spent ages choosing it as it was a wedding gift. We've used it about 18 times in 18 years! And takes up an entire cupboard. I'm going to use it tonight now :)
