Hip hop's a genre I've tended to put to one side. BBC4 has been running a series of shows about influential hip hop tracks - last night, it was Atlanta's OutKast. What I didn't know was that the hip hop rivalry wasn't simply East vs West: the 'Dirty South' brought forth some big players. 'Elevators'. |

I’ll never forget hearing the Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on John Peel for the first time. Hip hop has always been about the funk, soul, jazz etc samples for me rather than the toasting / rapping
