No unless you're so ambitious performance-wise or running in such lonely places that going into a shop or pub to buy stuff isn't on.

If you need something to carry kit/drinks - you need a bumbag - allows you to keep your back cool (I overheat massively when I have to wear a rucksack).

I have tried bumbags, I don't get on with them as they give me lower back pain.

I need something for ultra runs/trail marathons that I can get to at least some of the pockets without having to take off the pack. I don't always run in places where there are shops or pubs and need to take a jacket/hat/gloves etc with me. I also need a pack that will fit me - I'm quite narrow in the body (erm, no boobs basically ;) )

The Ultimate Direction race vests are excellent, I have the Jenny Pack and love it, only issue is the water carrying capacity but I am going to upgrade to the PB vest for the summer and have soft bottles
