ok this is not meant to be controversial :-)

So i am 174cm(5.7 feet) and weight about 66kg (10.4 stones). By any standards this is not overweight at all.

BUT for long distance running standards, this is not 'ideal'. I would like to lose about 5kg (11 pounds).

So my question is, do I have 5kg to lose in my body or there is no way it can happen. Do i have that fat in my body to lose? Or do i have to lose some muscle too?

Ideas/comments/opinions?

More seriously, there will be a little fat to lose, but not much. You can get a more accurate assessment of body fat done, but there is a minimum below which unhealthy-ness starts to occur.

fair point, but i think that if i reach my target i will be still above that unhealthy level. But that would be a different discussion :-)

You may be right that a little less fat to carry round would help but even if that is a given, with the mileage that you already do, you would need to be very careful in how you restrict your calorific intake to shave that fat off without adversely affecting your ability to train at the right intensity and volume.

At least, as a non-expert I would expect that to be the case.
