I'm currently doing low reps of big upper-body weights by stealth, and am certainly "toning up" rather than "bulking up".

No amount of resistance work is going to create significant muscle gain unless it's accompanied by extra calories.

My PT is working with me to do circuits, and the weights aren't light really - bicep curls would be with 2 x 8 or 9kg for instance. I;m certainly not bulking up, and I can feel the difference the general strength is making to my running. I've lost 3 kilos in about 6 weeks...though I have cut down on booze so that might also have something to do with it! ;-)

I'm not messing with you, Mrs Winkle! I can just about curl 4kg each side on a good day :P

My PT is a mean, mean man. My arms judder and all sorts. Still, he does call me a machine which I rather like so I'll stick with him lol

ControFATtoSTICK - the mystery of the vanishing Frenchie

I'm 5 kgs above the weight when I ran my best pre injury in 2008 and a whopping 12kgs heavier than my "ideal"racing weight. I'm running slower but I cannot just blame weight for this. 2011 will see me move back down to my 2008 weight, we shall then see if I am ok or not.

Interestingly, I am now 6kg heavier than when I ran my 5km PB.

I just inputted my 5k pb into that Running For Fitness website, and, according to the website, my weight gain means my 5k time will have decreased from 17:52 to 19:32. I ran 19:25 on Saturday, not flat out, and I have lost running fitness over the past 11 months as I've not been running because of my plantar fasciitis.

This either means the calculator is wrong, or I'm going to run very fast when the weight comes off again!!

I'm praying that dumping the rucksack will enable me to find about 7 minutes over marathon distance at Luton :-) ;-)

Just found this runinthesun.com which has a note at the bottom to say that Coe was at 133 at his best rather than 120. still light but not as light.

Got something to say?
