Got yaktrax last winter and really liked them - good grip in most conditions and feel ok on roads for short distances. mrs s snapped one of the rubber bits on the sole, probably due to lots of miles including changing from snow to road and back.

D'oh, thank you, Muddie! That's very useful. The sizing chart, that is. ;-)

My running shoes are between sizes 6-7 (normally 6), which is why I'm not sure. Off to measure the circumference of my footprint (or just the sole of my shoe?).

I bought some with small spikes last year from Amazon (stretch rubber base, small blue spikes, will look for link later. They were excellent in hard packed snow and ice, perfect for when the pavements were very icy. Ok for crossing small sections of Tarmac. Useless in slush!
I went running in them and put them on my normal outdoor shoes.

Get them NOW before the snow comes!

I'm with Rich. I just shorten my stride slightly. Its harder work but you get some quality fitness off that kind of training. I tend to wear my racing shoes as they glide much better rather than sinking in. Like ice skates innit (if only I looked graceful too :p)

Not sure normal shoes work on frozen snow or ice if it is up hill (or down hill!!).

I'm waiting to see if we get much snow then might get orocs, or spiky bike tyres... or maybe cross country skis if it is anything like 2009/2010.
