Ballot this year - great, or it would be if you were not guaranteed to spend £45 trying to get one of the mere 250 ballot places, you pay on entry and if you are lucky get a place in a very nice race, if you are unlucky you get entered into a second drawer, a London Marathon 2012 draw and a hoodie as a boobie prize but can relax knowing that you have donated £45 to the Royal Parks Foundation - lovely way of guaranteeing fundraising for the parks but I'm not convinced it's a good idea

Wow, good job for them it is a popular race so folks won't mind paying £45 but it seems a rather complicated entry system. A lot of races seem now to be charging in the region of £45 for a half marathon. I hope that they don't all go that way.

Today is the deadline for entering this - we then find out on Friday if we've been successful or not.

Where did you find out only 250 places? If I had known that I would never have paid up front. Very cheeky way of getting tons of money.

*crosses off the list of potential races* am sure it's a lovely race but, what a faff. and how funny to assume that everyone would want to go into a ballot for London 2012. just that assumption alone puts me off. VLM gets away with the whole hoodie as a boobie prize thing, but I don't think the Royal Parks half yet has that status or mass appeal. |

VLM has never got anything off me in return for a piece of oversized tat. I never bequeath and seem to have the same luck/bad luck as everyone else. £45 is a ludicrous amount to pay for a half in my opinion but if it fills up they are hardly going to change their policy are they?

can't see on the site where it says only 250 places. the race itself has 12.5k places. there are still charity places available (of course).
