You don't want to listen to me then ;)

Not my first, but my first step up from sprint distance.

So, what's an average time for the 1500m swim?? I would say I'm slightly better than an average swimmer. I reckon it took me about 45 mins to swim around the islands this morning and I was taking my time and doing lots of sighting etc.

Midfield racers will usually do 1500m in around 35-40mins. The sharp end can be around 25mins in a competitive tri with a big field, anything sub-30 would probably put you in a decent position. Might be worth looking at last year's results to get a better idea.

Assuming a mass water start, probably best to stick towards the back and avoid the worst of the biff on your first go, find a nice relaxed stroke and steadily build to a sustainable race speed. Watch how everyone lines up in the water and try and find a bit of space away from the crowds.

I did 34 something on a standalone 1500m ow swim event, but it wasn't a mass start, and that made me lose my rhythm a bit at allerthorpe...

It'll be my first olympic and OW tri. To be frank, I'm bricking it (pun intended :-)).

Me too. Meeting a mate from That London; Ripon was about halfway between us and had a good reputation for an after-show party.
