I have the feeling that this is rather more politically motivated than financial. George Osborne complained last year that the BBC appeared to want to be the national newspaper of Britain - I think that's pretty bogus, but even if it were true; well the national newspapers of Britain are doing an increasingly shit job of that at the moment.

premierfella May 2016 11:58am, 18 May 2016 29 posts	0 premierfella Looks pretty much like the "climbdown" was fairly limp - they said from the start some of the content would appear on the commercial site and that the recipes would still be found via search engines. All that has changed is how many of the recipes may transfer, and now that eyes are watching, how quickly they do the transfer (to arguably where this content really should have ended up in the first place). Ad-tastic!

Wait for the outcry highlighting how good the site/service/etc is 3. Present actual plan 4. Rest happy that you dodge the potential hot potato of commercialising public service content.
