If you wanted to be sure you could do a road marathon double first, on the basis that it is going to be easier (probably) than an off road double. Or even a full followed by a HM but that would seem like practice bleeding to me.
I haven't done a double yet so am not best qualified to comment but I'm planning a triple next year and I may or may not get around to a double before hand.

It may hurt some but you can do it but you'll never know if you don't try.
And if you fail you'll know what you need to do to succeed the next time.

I did point out that I would be taking it a lot slower and having walk breaks if I knew I was doing another the next day.
I did 33 yesterday and was thinking of going out today to see how it felt but not going that far. If I were to do a double then I would compensate by doing less in the week. I prob did my highest milage week this week so going out today to see if I can do a long run wouldnt give me a true picture.

I'm quite sure any experienced (and uninjured!) marathon runner can do a double if they really want to. Apart from taking day 1 reasonably sensible, it's all in the head.

Good point Jo, the only thing now is that cos OH has said I cant , if it turns out that I cant then he will do the 'I told you do' thing. Mindyou, normally when we have arguments about things I end up being right, he has still not learnt and continues to argue the toss about things. For example, he got annoyed with me cos I hadnt bought any more liquid to hand wash things in. I said no need for it cos you can use normal washing powder for that. He argued with me over it, I got the box out to prove him wrong!!! We have these sorts of rows regularly but it would be just my luck that he wins on this one!!

Surely if he (or anyone else) says you can't then that is all the motivation you need

sort of paul!!
just had another conversation with him, I think cos he is wearing my HM T shirt (was too big) he thinks he knows about running!!!
Anyway he is now saying that if it was in the holidays it would be OK and he is concerned about me being tired. I said others do it then he said 'but they are not as delicate as you'!!!!!!!! Wots that all about!!!!!!!!
