We've had the re-usable pint thick plastic glasses at Chelmsford for a couple of years. They're fine for championship games when the bar crowds are sparse and sober. It all gets a bit weary for T20s and the like. Wriggers is spot on - it's a simple 'money for beer' transaction for many - the quantity of money and whether it include the 'purchase' of yet another glass becomes irrelevant by about the fifteenth over.

I had a very bad experience with the thick re-usable cups at the Ricoh Arena when we went to watch the rugby. The Guinness tasted off, all chemically, despite pouring pints from different barrels. Problem was traced to a batch of re-usable cups that had been sent for cleaning and come back with detergent on them.

Far more eco friendly to smuggle in a barrel of home brew and drink directly from the tap

It's possible that someone actually *likes* Oranjeboom. Never met them, but I'm willing to believe they exist.

Is Oranjeboom still "a thing" in Chelmsford? Thought it was part of the Red Stripe/Labatts /Castelmaine xxxx type of cat piss from back in the day? |

It’s still A Thing because, inexplicably, all the beer comes from Kent and it comes as a package with Spitfire.

I haven't drunk alcohol for a *long* time, but I remember Oranjeboom as having a nast bubble-gum taste. There was something else I didn't like that teasted similar. What was the Tennants strong-but-not-stupid thing with a black pump? That, I think. And one of those pumped Pilsner things. And possibly the hideous Carling Premier. Didn't like any of them.

I remember the first time I had a bottle of Spitfire. On the cross channel ferry en route to watch Forest play Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup quarter final.

I very recently had Oranjeboom for a laugh. Amsterdam. It was rubbish. There was a fad for odd named lager, Hofmeister, Molson, Lowenbrau (which we hilariously called laughing brew) and Skol. Special brew was my choice for pre-loading, not that we called it that back then. Tenets Extra had the black label. |
