I'm confused!!

On the HowardGrubb site, the 5km road factor for 2015 data for a 47yo male is 0.9002 and the "scratch" time is 12m59s (779s).

howardgrubb.co.uk

By my (poor) maths, a time of 20m00 (1200s) on a 5k course would then get a score of (779 / 0.9002) / 1200 = 865.36/1200 = 72.11 - 72.11% age grade.

But that same calc on FE gives an answer of 71.65% and on the Howard Grubb site comes out at 72.08%. I can probably rationalise the 0.03% difference as being in the roundings somewhere, but is the Fetch one correct or not now that it is in line with the 2015 factors? Is there some extrapolation in there, or has the WAVA calculator not been updated?

Sigh
@larkim - I've not heard of the HowardGrubb site, but what you've described is the same issue I have when comparing to the Power of 10 age grades on the last page.

As I complete about twice as many parkruns per year as I do all other race distances combined, getting the 5k grades right is quite important, esp. as like most folks I'm quicker over the shorter distances.

I know part of the answer may be that fetch interpolates WAVA factors for some distances, but I thought that they were "fixed" for 5km and 10km, hence my confusion!

The HowardGrubb site is interesting as it has the spreadsheet downloads for all the factors, fun if you like that sort of thing!

Po10 agrees with HowardGrubb (save for roundings), by the way. At least for the 3 or 4 results I checked.

Sigh
Thanks, I'll have a look. I have a tortuous conference call on Thursday afternoon, I'll need something to keep my mind active :-)

For reasons I can't explain, I had the scratch time down as 774 seconds, not the 779 listed in the factors. Making that correction gives 72.11% for a 20 min time for a 47yo male at 5k.

btw, is there something missing on the standards pages? The three lines which should show the races which are being used for the standards calc are blank on my view. I'm sure they normally show the relevant race?

I'll have a look at that.

Have also just checked the scratch times for all our other 2015 factors, and they all seem ok.
