I think he had been on TV all my life. I wondered if the BBC had been advised this sad news was imminent and that's why no Strictly dancers have been announced in the last few days out of respect.

Very few entertainers have spanned as many aspects of the business. Song, dance, musical theatre, stage...and then his TV career: not everyone is a game show fan but The Generation Game was a high point imvho.

Baroness, they announced Brian Conley earlier so maybe they didn't? But I guess they would have had everything prepared given that he's been unwell for a while
