The Potteries Marathon is coming back! It hasn't been ran since 2004 when dwindling numbers forced it to change to a HM. I've not ran it but I am told it is challenging - it is ran in July (July 5th 2015), and involves the odd hill or two. Definitely not for the faint hearted. There is also a relay option for teams of 4.

Details of the race are here; http://www.fetcheveryone.com/viewracedetails.php?id=106707

The website hasn't launched yet, but details can also be found on facebook. The launch date for entries is 3rd October

Thanks Dan for the link. I ran in the 1993 marathon in a time of 3.12.26. From memory, I think the two toughest hills came at 15 and 18 miles. It was a tough course, but I was younger and faster in those days. The new route will probably be entirely different.

Hi hilllstrider, they are trying to keep the course as close to the original as possible, and I know that the hill at 18 miles is still there! Will you run it next year?

I'm well up for this. I was going to do an Enigma, but I'm doing this for a change.

Hi Dan, I will keep the race in mind, and check next years race diary to see if I can fit it in. It also, of course, depends on whether I can put in the necessary training mileage.

I remember the "notorious tea stop" at 22 miles which was serving teas and cakes. I didn't take advantage of it myself, but a friend of mine who also ran did. I wonder if it will be there again next year.

Tempted by this one. A bit out of my locality / self-imposed marathon travel restriction for 2015 but I'm struggling to find maras this year that don't clash with other priorities.

Got something to say?
