Although average at Hyde Park is 141.1+/-5.1 over the duration of the whole lifetime of the hyde park event, if you look at only the 2010-2011 period adn compare it to 2007/8, the numbers have actually substantially increased on average:
2010-11 period - average # runners was 204.7+/-8.5
2007-08 period - average # runners was 90.4+/-3.9

The variance (square of standard deviation) in number of runners has also increased.

Sorry, that should have been 144.1+/-5.1 for the all time average.

Bit more analysis - plotted number of runners at each event in Hyde Park and also the cumulative average:

Wetherby Runners are an active club and Roundhay is closer and easier to reach than Hyde Park, I assume you've contacted them re volunteering? Big junior membership too.

I'd be certainly more likely to attend Roundhay than Hyde Park.
