I sat next to Starmer on a flight some years ago. He was a very engaging thoughtful guy. I'd go for a beer with him.

It's more fun over on the Dear Scottish Fetchies thread... where we're watching the Scottish results come in. If you can lower yourselves to following "regional" elections Or was it colonies?! G

Momentum keep shitting on about "Keith's" knighthood, like it's some kind of link to landed gentry rather than recognition by his nation of his status as the nation's top criminal barrister. Whereas they forget about Jeremy's paid-for education and long career talking about other people. |

[Hoping my reference to "colonies" was taken as it was intended. I know I've come over a bit angry today, but that was intended lightheartedly.]

Is that Scottish thread even about politics? Can't see any contrarian name calling or thinly veiled trolling over there so assumed not

Labour got a kicking in Sheffield. Leader of the council lost his seat and the Greens picked up 5 seats and Lib Dems picked up 3. (Cons also picked up one that I think was a UKIP seat previously in Stocksbridge) |

First Conservative councillor in Sheffield in 20 years mind. The miners' strike left a long cultural memory in the city. |

Generous of the English to let the Scots have another vote so soon after they let them have the last one.

Cornwall going Tory 1 seat short of a majority today with 10 left to declare. Labour (all being well should gain seats - they've already got the same amount as last time with a hugely reduced council 123 seats to 87 seats). They had 5 last time, already have 5 and two old mainly Labour seats to declare still in Penzance. And you can blame the Lib Dems for that, a finished force in Cornwall, their 38 seats will be down to 1x at the end of today. And the independents too. I honestly no longer know what the point of the Lib Dems is here. Supposedly their heartland and they are clueless. The best candidates they put up are "light greens" the worst are neo-Tories. They are going back at each and every general election, Labour now 2nd place in 4 of the 6 constituencies. If Lib Dems and Lab were to make some sort of pact, they might challenge at both council level and mp level. In my own constituency Tories won, but Lib Dem + Labour would have eclipsed the Tory. |
