What would happen if you put a treadmill on the event horizon of a black hole? It would appear to stop forever along with whoever was on it. If it happened to pop past that point both would be spaghetified, although we wouldn't see it happen from here. Another fun question, according the General Relativity if a treadmill was stationary on Earth, and the belt was moving almost at the speed of light, would a second person viewing the runner age in comparison to the runner on the treadmill? |

You silver-tongued devil, you. Perception, it could be argued, is subjective. 1 = 1 |

jonp: Yes. The runner on the treadmill would be thrown backwards so violently by the belt that s/he would stand no chance of surviving and, therefore, would not age any further. The second person will be fine, unless struck by the runner. (Explanation may contain traces of stupid).

Badger, imagine it was a super human runner who could run near to the speed of light (ignore the fact that there is earth's gravity to take account of)

Ok. Seriously, then, it depends which bit of the body you are looking at. Their heads will be sharing an inertial frame, with no relative motion, so there will be no difference in aging. On the other hand, the runner's arms and legs will be moving backwards and forwards with peak velocities approaching lightspeed and tremendous acceleration, so they'll experience time dilation, and the runner's watch will register less elapsed time than the timer on the treadmill, or the observer's watch. Assuming there that you've made the watch strap out of tremendously strong unobtainium so it doesn't fly off the runner's wrist with that cadence in the hundred megahertz region. |

OMG I hope that superhuman runner uses POSE and has a good pair of shoes. Otherwise they may do themselves a mischief and have some paradoxially aged footware

This is brilliant stuff. So the conclusion is that running on a treadmill makes your arms younger but not your head. Excellent! Talk about wise head on young shoulders. I KNEW there was a good reason to go to the gym.
