Sam Simmons was a good call. Surprised Jonathan Davies isn't in - but probably the right call there too.

Anyone surprised about Chris Harris? And Scotland press were trailing that Finn Russell would probably be left out?

Gatland will only have had to be convinced that he (Russell) would still be a good tourist even if he doesn't get in the test 23. Does Russell really have an attitude issue, or was it only with Townsend? (which doesn't excuse it, but it becomes moot for a Lions tour) |

I get the impression that Russell is a bit of a maverick. Not quite as bad as Cipriani but he has an unmanageable aspect and certainly not short on self confidence (I appreciate the latter applies to just about every fly half from the U11's to the Lions). He might fall out with Gatland.

Sexton Eliot Daly Navidi Also surprising is England have most players, 11 (although overall it’s more balanced between the nations than usual). |

PtB, I'm not sure it become a moot point for a/this Lions tour if Russell's issue is only with Townsend, given Townsend is the Lions' attack coach. The selection of six second rows suggests to me that Itoje, Lawes and/or Henderson are being considered as potential back row options, which IMO history has shown is not the way to go. |

Beirne is another lock / 6 hybrid He is also played a bit at 6 for Ireland. I assume this is to combat the threat of PDST |

Given AWJ is captain, and Itoje invariably an 80 minute man... some of those second rows are going to have to play at centre to get a game |

I watched Northampton v Gloucester on Saturday. I don't get much chance to watch rugby so I was impressed with Gloucester and surprised by their relative league positions on what I saw. Rees-Zammit looked very quick. Also, Harlequins 48 - 46 Wasps yesterday! |

Cheeky’s Dad
Squidgy Rugby has an interesting initial analysis of how he thinks this Lions team will line up and the logic of Gatland’s picks. Well it made sense to me! 😀
