Another way I often use is the made-up competition win. You make a fake gmail account for a real company and then email yourself an official-looking email saying you've won a price. In this case the prize would be an entry for the 10K on NYD. Because it's a competition win the OH's mindset changes entirely and you get do it no questions asked. I do it a few times a year for all sorts of reasons.

Nope. Only races count.

As for the race, JFDI - it's only 10k so it's not like it needs to take up a lot of time.

Give her so much champagne on NYE that she agrees to let you do it! Or tell her to get over herself, it's only a few hours.

40 minutes when most other people in the country will be asleep and absolutely everything is closed.

I'm running NYD in Cleethorpes. If the weather's nice there's the option of the boy and the wife coming. They've so far always declined.

It's ok, I've found one on Sunday so I'm going to give that a blast and help keep the peace.

Got something to say?
