I was thinking what larkim said ^. As long as there is no pushing or shoving two people striving for line side by side is a great spectacle and usually a lot of fun for the runners as well.

Sprint finishes are the best bit about parkrun aren’t they? And then giving random strangers a high five :)

It would be nice if volunteers could be "shared around" a bit more. I sometimes see Thu / Fri night pleas for volunteers at one local event, when another one, not far away is inundated. Of course, not everyone can travel easily etc. but might be a good thing for a technical solution "Volunteer: any role, any of the following parkruns, this Sat" then a sort of volunteer "clearing" service? :-) G

A few weeks ago I passed another runner who was going very slowly in the last stretch of a parkrun. I saw her glance at me as I passed and said encouragingly "come on, I bet you can beat me." She left me for dust! When I looked at her PB later it was sub-20 - she must just have been jogging it that day.

I've stood down as a volunteer to let someone else have the role on two occasions and both times I got a volunteer credit for volunteering to have a run instead :)

I didn’t get a credit for the week the Sutton Park event was cancelled. There should be a dealing with “extremely disappointed” and “devastated” parkrunners role :-)

HappyG, I have been known to signpost people to other locals that are short staffed if my rota is full

FreshStart, you should have got the credit another week.

I guess if there was no “event” on the system then you can’t get the credit on that actual week .

That’s what the ED said Maz. I did get free cake and tea so it wasn’t a completely wasted morning :-)

Surely if someone arrived on the Sat morning asking to volunteer and a polite thank you but this week we are fully manned shouldn't put them off. Most Rotas sometimes by the skin of their are filled by a Friday night. Certainly if it was me I would either go on and run it or if injured and can't run I would stand with a Marshall and cheer on.
