Are you a prepper? Solar panels, windmill, ground source heat pump and ups in place?

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Don't spoil our nostalgia jda. Of course lots of 70s food was grey, overcooked and unhealthy, but what kid pines for a nice Mediterranean salad? The Scottish winter diet didn't really improve until chiller lorries and improvements to the M74 in the late 70s and early 80s. Our local greengrocers Malcolm Campbells was anything but green for half the year. |

57.5 Degrees of Pain
My friend just posted a picture from 1976 of a crowd of boys at the Scottish Scout Outdoor Centre at Lochgoilhead. They are wearing life jackets and walking down to the Loch to get in kayaks or sailing dinghys. Some of the flares are so massive a normal bouyancy aid would have no chance against that much waterlogged cloth. Especially the inevitable corduroy!

No Dvorak, I'm just younger and fitter than my neighbours so reckon I'll be able to kill and eat them if needs be (well, I'll start with their tinned food stashes first, grey and tasteless though it may be).

I used to be fond of butterscotch Angel Delight. It hadn't occurred to me that you could still get it.

I'm pining for a nice mediterranean salad right now, looking at the greyness out of my office window. Tinned things I buy: chickpeas; butterbeans; Italian tomatoes; tuna; sardines; pease pudding; baked beans. My wife loves tinned rice pudding. |

I like tinned rice pudding but this week I've had pudding made from actual pudding rice (something which is surprisingly hard to find). A small amount of rice goes a very long way. Tinned fruit. Peaches in rice pudding. Pear condé. Tinned soups as a back up, as most soup is freshly made here (soup de jour: broccoli and stilton). Soup all year, nearly very day. (Just been some nasty business in Badger's Drift. Very narsty.) |
