Mea culpa. I was impressed at how many people declared under the relevant blog post that they'd never had a Heinz sponge pudding but were traumatised to discover that they no longer had the option. At least I have eaten them in the current millennium and may have only lost the habit because of eL Bee!'s declared preference for crumble with his custard. |

Fray Bentos pies, though The only person ever to give me Fray Bentos pie for dinner (steak and kidney, ick) died tragically young.

Frozen has superseded tinned in almost all respects. Be it sponge puddings or pies. I’d much rather enjoy the hugely improved quality and range of food available in the UK now than hark back to the stodgy grey crap I grew up on.

I'm sure I see tinned sponge puddings every time I buy tinned rice pudding or custard.

Actually, jda, not to be rude, but ... have you actually seen a supermarket? There is no shortage of tinned goods on the shelves.* *Well, for the time being. |

Dvorak, well they start out refrigerated but after I get them home they are frozen, often for weeks on end, with no ill effects Yes I have seen there is some tinned stuff but can’t imagine why anyone would want to buy it for the most part. Baked beans and tinned tomatoes are about the only exceptions. (I realise of course not everyone has ample freezer space.) |

I’m expecting the power cuts in Jan and it will stay frozen anyway
