February: the perfect month for a bit of focus. You’ve been paid, spring’s around the corner, it’s no longer dark at 5pm, all the Christmas leftovers have been eaten or binned. And it’s only 28 days. That’s 4 weeks exactly (count ‘em). If you’re needing a bit of discipline or your resolutions flagged in those draggingly long dreary January days, tomorrow marks a whole new start. Allow me to introduce the February Challenge. Feballenge, innit. Four aspects of life to fix, four specific goals to achieve, four weeks to do it in. Here’s mine: Weight: I’m going to cut out the treats, up the veggies and the water, and monitor myself on MyFitnessPal until I’ve reshed the 6lbs that have snuck back on over the last 6 months. Fitness: 100 miles run in the month. Simples. Work: This one’s a bit too specific and confidential, but it’s a good one. Sorry. Happiness: I choose to stop caring quite so desperately about what other people think of me or whether they like me and just get on with things. (And now it’s on the internet, I HAVE to do it.) Are you in? And if so, what’s yours? |

I like it! I'm in Here goes Fitness: keep up the HM plan - but specifically, one core training session a week Weight: 5lbs to lose to see the other side of 10 stone for the first time in 9 years Work: due to departmental reshuffle I will taking on a new role from 1st April - Feb therefore perfect time to ensure all previous role odds and ends are boxed off! Happiness: to have at least 4 quality evenings out with OH, and the same number with OH & the kids! |

Excellent! NB it doesn't have to be goals in those specific categories; them are mine but you can have any you want. You don't even need four. I don't care, frankly, as long as whatever you do works for you. 'Sgood to make them positive though, like these: can't stand a negative goal.

Wake up tomorrow morning with new legs. Run very well over 100 miles. Not be daunted by hills if we go to Cornwall for half-term. Browbeat my manager into giving me some work, or hand in my notice. In any case fill in form for a three-day week. Post passport application in good time for Easter trip to Spain. Post form claiming my pension. Find time to read two books I've put on my wife's Kindle when she doesn't want it. (Le Grand Meaulnes and The Antidote: Happiness for people who can't stand positive thinking.) |
