I f you're staying around for longer than the race, Howick Hall gardens are wonderful and I could have spent days in Barter books in Alnwick Bamburgh, Dunstanbrugh (?sp), and Alnwick castles Lindisfarne boat trips to the Farne islands to see puffins (just about still there in July) Craster for the kippers
it's a brilliant area to spend some time
