Nice to see you all on Saturday. Tricky little course you got yourself there. No idea what 5k shape I'm in at the moment as that was my first 5k for almost 11 months, but I'd guess that it's about 15-20 secs slower than Bushy

Didn't run this Saturday, I wanted to but still worried the shin will flare up again. It's fine over long distances at a slower pace but as soon as I engage my calf muscles they stiffen up and tear the point where the tendon meets the muscle (at the front of my shin). Also get it climbing hills early on in a run. Did get out on Sunday & Monday for a 12 & 13 miler.

Cheers Gobi, I'm trying to stay away from the quick stuff for the mo and looking to build up my endurance for the Thames Trot in February. I guess 5k's won't help much towards that, but I'll be back there when I feel it's right. Hope your clear from injury now.

Jonny - fatal mistake of distance runners is to avoid speed work

Training needs balance

I'll still be doing some intervals. Stretching out the calf muscle during the recovery helps to alleviate the pain and tightening (as long as the interval doesn't become too long). Mile repeats can be pushing it.

I'm having trouble viewing the parkrun website on the blackberry - what happened on saturday? Any course records, did Tim break 17.00? I see RFJ and BB had a run outm
