I guess mountain bike would be best but you could probably go round the lake on a hybrid. those who did the marathon will be able to say.

The Coastal Run is possibly the best race in the world, much better than a 10k round Gateshead!!!!! Said the Alnwick Harriers committee member...........

Given his background, Dockie may be biassed but I have to agree with him. Although it's nice to see a new road race taking in Gateshead, I know which race I'd prefer. Running along the sands (and streams) at Beadnell, passing Dunstanburgh Castle, quick visits to Craster and the beach at Boulmer with the joy of the countryside and the sea; it's no contest!

Dockie, have a good time at Liversedge. I enjoyed it when I did it back in 2002. But it has a few hills; so pace yourself. If you've not seen it, then their web page at roberttownroadrunners.co.uk has some updates to do with car parking and road hazards.

Following the mention here yesterday about the Great North 10K, I added that to my list of future races in North East England: http://www.northeastraces.com. Thanks.

Within the last 20 minutes, I've also added to that page a link to a form for the 3rd Newcastle Town Moor Marathon (being held on October 30th).

I've recently also added entries for many other races. Local ones include the Raby Castle 10K and new mixed terrain 5K and 10K races at Lambton Park (which is between Washington and Chester-le-Street).

Don't forget that Monday morning is when online entry for the Blaydon Race is planned to happen. Last year it started at 1am and was full by 1pm.

And I've received two e-mails from runners about the Kielder Marathon. This year's race is on October 9th. The e-mails say that those who entered last year will get a priority entry on Tuesday. This is also confirmed by several people at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kielder-Marathon/119404248070457.

It looks as if sendentry.com will once again be used for online entry into the Blaydon Race.

As mentioned previously, a www.blaydonrace.co.uk web page says forms for the Blaydon Race are planned to be available on Monday. There are 2000 online entries and 2000 postal entries. Last year, online entries opened at 1a.m. and filled by about 1p.m. Postal entries filled in about 4 days.
