Susie, you will be fine at the Coastal RUn, it's only like doing Gibside then carrying on around again afterwards and there is loads of time for you to build your mileage up slowly for it as well

you're right DD. I need to start thinking positively don't I :-) and let's face it, the 10K route might be better than it used to be but it can't beat the coastline!

What's the route on the GN 10k? All I can see is that it finishes in Gateshead Stadium.

Am in the coastal run anyway, but I'm dead nosey. ;)

very true Susie, I haven't done the coastal run yet but have entered for the past two years. Never made the start line yet due to injury so it will be third time lucky! I know you'll be able to do it and the scenery will be so much better than Gateshead! ;-)

i pinched this from the great run website Flyswatter:

The exact details of the course are still to be confirmed but will start outside Gateshead International Stadium on the Felling Bypass.

The route will pass notable landmarks such as the Baltic, the Sage, Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Tyne Bridge, then follows the river west passing the residential developments at the old Garden Festival site. Runners will then return with a climb through Gateshead Town Centre past the Civic Centre before finishing in the Stadium

Hmm... almost past my front door. Presumably the climb will be up Askew Road West (not the 184), Cuthbert Street and then onto Bensham Road. Some canny hills there. :)

Glad I'm doing the Coastal after thinking about that. ;)

I like a few hills, looking forward to a change of scenery I think, wasn't too sure at first as I quite like Sunderland & it was my first ever 10k there.
