MeLAR/illeuad - I did the first Keilder marathon - personally I wouldn't recommend it - especially if you want scenic as you're in the trees most of the time. Its also my least favourite marathon I have ever done and swore never to do again. I know everyone likes different things but the route was awful - it was constantly up and down short inclines - no recovery as the only flat seciton was the bit across the dam - it was also one of the few bits were you could actually see any scenery. This is the only race I;ve almost DNf'd at when I considered stopping because I was hating it rather than having to DNF because I was injured. I can see why that guy was tempted to get on the bus at 18 miles!

Not sure about the 10K as I;ve only ever done the marathon but would guess it would be similar.

I still have nightmares about seeing a sign about every 50-100 metres (& I;m not exxaggerating :) ) saying either steep incline or steep decline!

Thanks for that Jovi. I quite fancied Kielder as I'm a big fan or running round lakes, but I might find another event now. Wouldn't have been this year anyway - clashes with Marvellous Mablethorpe.

That's no good - you need a decent downhill as a reward for the ups!!

Last year the 10k went round bull crag... must be better than the Gasteheed 10k surely?

The 10k is undulating too but some nice scenery and views of the lake abound!

If the 10K is around Bull Crag then arguably it is a bit better route as that is at the end of the marathon course and it is a little more scenic as you can see the reservoir at that point. I love hills but it was the fact that they weren't so much hills but short sharp ups and downs ala a roller coaster stylee that made it so unenjoyable. We had a club trip and all five of us who ran didn't enjoy it. That said, I know Lisrun enjoyed it when he did it as part of the North East Marathon club event so maybe you might enjoy it but as Steve Redgrave said about rowing - if you ever see me considering doing it again, shoot me!
