That's a shame SSH. I'm doing it this weekend too. I've been looking for another event to keep me going on the bike and came across the Wooler Wheel in October. Also looked at the Bellingham Blast in September but that just might be a bit too mountain bike-hilly for me.

The Wooler one looked good I thought. Nice quiet roads.

Haha! No, I'm not. Once was enough! I felt it was going up & down steep little hills just for the sake of it & I'm not a fan of short steep hills. I've a different cassette on my bike now so would probably find it easier but I still shudder thinking of it!!! ;-)
Have I sold it to you Mick???

I was thinking about it last year but it was just the week before Great North Run. This year it is the night after a good friend's 40th. Maybe next year. Signed up for Wooler.

It's a great ride, it just doesn't suit my riding strengths. I'm much better plodding up the longer hills. I did the Beast & the Hills of the North with MuddyIdiot last year. He loved The Beast & was less in love with the Hills of the North & I was the opposite. It is off course possible that my new cassette helped me appreciate the delights of Crawleyside Bank much more! :-)

If you are looking for something to do on Saturday, you might like to think about this one

http://www.fetcheveryone.com/viewracedetails.php?id=75147

It is a lovely event and it is not too difficult to win a cash prize (there aren't many entrants....) There is usually some Striders who do it and a race report from last year's race is at elvet-striders.org.uk

That looks great. I particularly like the sound of Cyril The Squirrel & his racing terriers!!!!!
