The web page blaydonrace.co.uk says "Lads and Lasses should be 16 years or over on 9.6.2012 ". Another web page says "the Kiddars' Fun Run at Blaydon before the senior race is for 9 to 16 year-old local schoolchildren".

Hamsterboy, you enquired about the age limit of the Blaydon Race.

The age limit for a race will be given on the paper entry form for the race. Although there are exceptions, most races in the UK are licensed by UKA Athletics. UKA have a lot of rules about competitions. There are some documents at uka.org.uk The most up-to-date rules are in a document entitled "2010 Rules for Competition". (I think these get updated every 2 years, and the 2012 Rules come out next month.) The 2010 Rules are at: uka.org.uk

It's a long uninspiring document! Rule 207 (on page 118) has something to say about the maximum distance that youngsters can run. It says:

The maximum distances permitted in Open Competition for runners are as follows:
Age on day of competition Maximum Distance for all athletes
Over 11 – Under 13 5K
Over 13 – Under 15 6K
Aged 15 years 10K
Aged 16 years 16K (aka 10M)
Aged 17 years 25K (includes Half Marathon)
Over 18 – Under 20 Marathon

I'm not an expert but I think that is what applies to UKA Licensed races.

Entries into the Northumberland Coastal Marathon opened 13 minutes ago. If you wish to enter this race, you should do it as soon as possible. Last year, the race filled by 1600 on Sunday, but my feeling is that it'll fill faster this year.

The page to enter the race is secure12.prositehosting.co.uk
There are more details about the race at northeastraces.com
