Unfortunately, the beast is on the same day as the Newbiggin Bay sprint tri and I need to do that to get rid of last year's demons

well, I will probably have the worst ever preparation for Sunday's pier to pier, I am going to attempt two thirds of a half ironman tomorrow - 2k swim followed by a 58 mile cycle. I'm not sure if I will do the full distance yet though, we will see how I feel tomorrow :-)

It means that i will definitely be taking it steady on Sunday!

There's a "tough and challenging" ultra trail race for walkers and runners on a circular course around Rosedale Abbey using remote tracks and woodland trails. It's on Saturday 19th November. There is a choice of 27 miles and 13 miles. There are more details at rosedaleultra.co.uk

Also details of this year's Border Reivers Half Marathon have just been released. This is on Wednesday 26th October. It takes place on a mixture of tarmac and forest tracks in and around RAF Spadeadam which is north of Haltwhistle. There are more details at northeastraces.com

MeLAR i see you are doing the best race in the world....the Coastal Run!!!
Last night surprised me a bit in that two of us travelled from the Alnwick area to race, yet some of the Newcastle/Sunderland clubs had no runners at all. Are we just sad?
