Jolguk - Is the ballot for New York like London?? Should I just enter to get rejections - or is it more straightforward?

about 85-90 quid. also cost $10 to register for ballot which you don't get back if you don't get it. I think that why most people go on organised tours or for charity.

It says that about 1 in 4 foreigners get accepted in the ballot, which is loads better than your London chances. I wouldn't say that $10 was a great deal to lose if you don't get it. My husband and 3 friends have entered the ballot. You have to enter before some point on the 1st of May (see the site), and the draw is in mid-May, so you've got plenty of time to organise something else if you're rejected. Me and a couple of mates have guaranteed places through a charity and 2:09 Events.

Sorry for being thick, but have I got this straight?

To enter I can either:

1. Try via the ballot - entry is $175 then I arrange my own flight/hotel etc. and don't find out till mid June if I'm in or not

2. Go with 2:09 events. Flight and entry costs £699 - can I book my husband on the same flights? then arrange my own hotel

It's an expensive trip either way, but still quite tempting...

Girlie
RuthB- Sports Tours is a similar price to 2:09. Main difference seems to be the flight- We fly with BA, 2:09 use Virgin.

We are taking Little Miss Girlie as well and Sports Tours hotel sounded better for us as a family.

Correct (plus $10, but I'm not sure exactly when you find out).

2. Go with 2:09 events. Flight and entry costs £699 - can I book my husband on the same flights? then arrange my own hotel

Yes. You can book for him through 2:09, too, but it costs (£699 - £212) , ie just short of £500. So I just booked him onto the same flight for around £280. 2:09 will also fly with airlines other than Virgin if you ask them. We are going with Continental, as they do cheaper flights from Manchester. We've booked an apartment for a week.

It's an expensive trip either way, but still quite tempting...
