i think the only thing that would stop me to get the 610 compared to the 305 is that it doesn't have courses ... if you do trail races or races with a route poorly marked, this is something i wouldn't be able to live without.

All,

I know no one seems to be posting on here anymore but thought I would drop a quick note.

I've had my 610 for about 16 months. Last few months the back started to corrode and a blue residue was being left on my wrist. It finally came to a head about 2 months ago when it was actually starting to cut my wrist as it was so rough where it had corroded.

Anyway, I got in touch with Garmin even though it was out of warranty to see what they said.

Responses were slow coming back (about 10 days for each email response) however they actually agreed to replace it free of charge with a refurbished one without any pushback. Refurbished one basically means an unwanted returned one as it is brand new as far as I can work out.

I've now got my new one and I can see they have changed the back on this updated model and the back is now a combination of metal and plastic - which not only looks like it should solve this problem but also has the advantage of making it lighter.

Thought I'd post it on here in case anyone else is having similar issues to let you know to get in touch with Garmin!

Thanks for posting that. I must sweat acid; I destroyed the backs of three watches in five months. Wound up fitting a strap that covered the back of the watch. Good to know that they've fixed that problem.

As I recall there was a faulty batch of backs out there, read about it somewhere on t'interweb. Never had any problems with my own.

Mine is about 10 months old and the corrosion to the back is starting to accelerate now with pitting and bubbling starting to appear.

I've raised a support request on it now so we'll see what happens. They'll have a hard job saying it's anything other than faulty product if they've now changed the design of the back.

Got something to say?
