Looks great. But what is (or was) a Fenix? Have I missed something somewhere?

Hendo - I think Fenix is more used by fell/hill walkers/runners due to its navigation software but has the added funcationality of bike/swim in it as well.

It's probably the least ugly watch Garmin have ever made.
Hendo, the fenix watches are made by the outdoors division at Garmin; started out as ABC watches with added GPS and evolved to support run/bike/swim with a bit of smartphone navigation thrown in, all of which stretched the hardware painfully. Looks as though the new model is repositioned directly above the 920xt, with better navigation.

For ultra runners, the Garmin microsite suggests it supports charging while recording.

You say "better".... when I say smartphone navigation, I mean smartphone notification. Duh.

So who's going to be the first to put up the £500 it's likely to cost?
