Need a bike £500 budget

I would like one that I could possibly use for a triathlon in the future. Help I have no idea what I’m looking for. I’m only 5’2 so need a small frame, that’s about as much as I know.

Could you use the cycle to work scheme to make the money go a bit further? cyclescheme.co.uk I know that doesn’t help with picking a bike, but someone who knows about these things could factor in the extra amount you could have to spend by using the scheme.

Suggesting that as buying new for £500 would probably lead to Halfords, personally I'm not a fan. If you're thinking of a tri in future you probably want a road bike with drop bars, but you but you don't have to a flat barred hybrid would be fine it's up to you. Great thing about bikes is you can change components relatively cheaply and make it what suits you. So really really first question is flat bars or drops? Then look at cycling sales pages And don't be afraid to ask WTF people are on about when they start speaking 'bike'

Mr. K. Aug 2019 7:02pm, 4 Aug 2019 3,527 posts	0 Mr. K. I bought a bike from Halfords (Boardman) & dropped new wheels & back cassette on it & cycled the Exmoor Half Ironman course on it (& overtook loads of very expensive bikes) - it what's you do on it that counts.
