They are very good at shimmying through tiny gaps too! And if any foliage touches, that is it: they lay their eggs from outside the netting and your plants still get munched. I let them and no longer bother. By the time I want my red cabbage, kale, cavolo nero or PSB the plants have recovered from caterpillar attacks :)

A couple of years ago the wee green beggars stripped my broccoli pretty thoroughly! Last year I netted the kale and broccoli, and found out for myself that if the leaves make contact with the netting then the butterflies will take advantage of it. ☹️
This year I've planted about a foot inside the net, and made sure there are no visible gaps!

Arial egg dropping CWBs? Oh my!

Thanks Hanneke will th the Snowdrop seed pod , I saw a googled YouTube clip of what to do with them. It’s nice because I have inadvertently imported them from my late dad’s garden where I moved a rose plant with a fair amount of soil intact.

Can anyone offer advise as to what if anything I should do to this patio cherry tree that is covered in tiny black nasties (technical term!)

I only got the tree last year, I’m not expecting a crop from it for a couple of years, although there are at least 2 cherries developing this year :-)

Encourage lacewings, ladybirds and blue tits!

Or try jetting them off with plain water.

Another one for soapy water! (Use a paintbrush if you don't have a sprayer.)

How did the spraying go Elsie Too ?

I planted out my sweetcorn last weekend but ............ the blustery wind of the last couple of days has broken most of them. I'll give them supports and hope they will recover.

I didn’t have a spray so went the paint brush method. It definitely helped but I think I need to give it some more attention
