Any time before March will be fine for Garlic. They don't like to be waterlogged, so might actually be better holding off for a while if you've had the levels of rain we've had recently.

If garlic likes a hot summer, then grow it in your greenhouse. Or get a propagator/planter/cold frame/similar with a clear/transparent lid. And just keep it well watered, but not waterlogged. |

Ooh - garlic in the greenhouse is a genius idea Fozzy! I planted it a couple of years on the trot in the veg bed using cloves from Lidl! Year 1 was pretty good. Year 2 was wetter & cooler, and the crop was very disappointing. Off to Lidl for a bulb later this week with the rest of the groceries, now! |

Thanks for the garlic advice. Long warm summers aren’t really a thing around here so I might try some in the greenhouse and some in a raised bed under a cloche / cold frame.

As a newbie(ish) gardener in sunny Scotland is there anything I should be planting/pruning this month, snow and frost permitting?

Raspberries grow well in Scotland (so I am told). Also tayberries and loganberries.

You can hardly stop them in Scotland Another place they grow well is around Caceres in Spain (halfway down the Portuguese border). Unlikely as it sounds, it has quite a Scottish climate seemingly.
