Fragile Do Not Bend
I’ve had flax growing under the bird feeder before which was nice and pretty. I’ve switched to only buying sunflower hearts and peanuts for the birds as I was fed up of having random grasses popping up under the feeders.

The mix I buy is supposed to be “no grow” with sunflower hearts, suet etc. but obviously there is some viable seed in there too.

I've got some random potatoes outside my side door. No idea how they got there, but they're looking better than the ones at my plot. |

Question. Like many in recent months, my missus has started growing stuff. We have four old tractor tyres turning up today that she wants to use as raised beds, but this morning she has discovered that there may be some concerns about growing veg in these. Any ideas / tips / hints? |

I discovered that the dead space on the inside of the tyre can swallow a terrifying amount of compost.

Cut the top/inside wall of the tyre out to make a bigger growing space! Or at least cut holes in it to plant strawberries etc. through!

Oh, and wash them out with Jeyes fluid or similar first!

I wouldn't use them for food. They leach chemicals into the soil and into your plants.

What Hanneke said - but you could line them with weed-control membrane or the stuff they sell to line raised beds with - which would also help with the issue V'rap pointed out.
